I had never heard of him and I did not know what he meant with nonviolent revolutions. I just wanted to check out this documentary festival in Oslo.
The pace was completely full, so my sister and me had to be on the opposite side of the seat road. Number 1 and 19. And after the movie people stood up and applauded. For a long while.
This American man is huge, old – and cute.
Gene Sharp wrote a recipe of how to do nonviolent revolutions. A recipe people around the world follow and really envy. People in the middle east, North Africa.
It is like a new sect. just that it does not feel freaky or overwhelming. It is a recipe towards a democracy.
The man himself was there, to answer questions after the movie. One of them to be:
«What if your method comes into the hands of the bad people?»
«That is a big achievement in it self. Don’t we want this bad people to use non-violent methods to get power insted of violent ones?» - Gene said.
And his assistance supplied: «if they manage to gather people, to institutionalize them, it is a step towards democracy – so the likelihood of a tyranny is small».
I am sure this guy will be nominate for the peace price one day. Or it should be soon. He is 82 years old, and still traveling around the world to engage people to his work.
A big man. A smart man.
Amen!
PS! They will show the movie again, and the man will be there – on Friday at Parkteateret. Don’t miss it! Or watch it on NKR in a two-weeks time.

what’s the name of the movie?
